Hendrix First-year pitcher Caleb Schallawitz held a powerful Trinity offense to one run on only three hits and struck out two in an 11-1 eight inning victory that gave the Hendrix College Warriors its first ever SCAC baseball championship and the school's first men's SCAC championship in any sport.Sunday, April 26, 2009
DePauw Claims Second Straight SCAC Softball Championship
The DePauw Tigers won their second straight SCAC Softball Championship this afternoon from the campus of Trinity University 8-0 over Rhodes.DePauw jumped out early on the Lynx with a two run bottom of the first inning and never looked backed handing the ball off to junior pitcher Megan Soultz. Soultz, a Carmel, Ind native, picked up her third win of the tournament and her 23rd of the year
pitching five shutout innings giving up just one hit.Rhodes finished its season with a school record 29 wins and returns all of its players next year with no seniors on the roster.
DePauw will represent the SCAC as the AQ in the NCAA Softball Tournament which the DU Tigers have been selected to host a regional.

2009 SCAC Track and Field Championships
What a weekend it was on the Mountain. The 2009 SCAC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships concluded on Saturday at Sewanee with the Rhodes College women and the Trinity University men claiming team titles.For the Rhodes women, it was their second consecutive title while the Trinity men laid claim to their third straight championship.
After the dust had cleared, SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry caught up with some of the central figures involved in Saturday's championship event.

Trinity University's Todd Wildman, the SCAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year, talked about the expectations entering this year's event after winning an individual national championship during the indoor season, and Rhodes College's Kristen Forbes, the SCAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year, talks about what it took for her team to repeat as conference champion as well as her personal quest to repeat as conference Athlete of the Year.

2009 SCAC Baseball Championships - Trinity vs. Centre
Trinity University used two seven run innings in beating Centre 16-0 in eight innings to earn a berth in the SCAC Championship game against undefeated Hendrix College. The win advanced the Tigers to its 14th SCAC Championship game in the 18-year history of the conference tournament. Trinity first baseman Evan Jones led the Tigers as he finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, walked twice and scored two runs. With his hit, Jones tied an SCAC tournament record with 12 hits. That feat was matched by four players and was last achieved by Millsaps' Hunter Owen in last year's tournament. 2009 SCAC Baseball Championships - Centre vs. DePauw
The Centre College Colonels staved off elimination in the second game of day three of the 2009 SCAC Baseball Championship with a 9-7 win over division rival DePauw University. DePauw senior Justin Weirner, who already broke the school career stolen bases record along with the SCAC career stolen bases record, added yet one more record to his list of accomplishments. He set a new conference mark with six stolen bases in the SCAC Tournament. After DePauw scored four runs in the top of the first the Colonels responded by scoring five in the bottom of the first and scored 10 unanswered runs and held on for an 11-9 win over the Tigers. Centre's Brandon Rosen led the way for the Colonels batting 4-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. Aaron Herbert picked up the win for Centre tossing six innings and striking out two.After the game Centre head coach Mike Pritchard and standout player Brandon Rosen spoke with the SCACs Jeff DeBaldo.

2009 SCAC Softball Championships - Rhodes vs. Hendrix
Rhodes capped off its marathon day of softball with a 4-1 win against Hendrix advancing to the championship game tomorrow at 11 AM CST against DePauw.Rhodes played solid defense all day long allowing just one run in three games today with three different starting pitchers, Sara Bowen, Chelsea Peters and Cindy Bitters. The Lynx used a three run third inning combined with seven hits and just one error to know off Hendrix tonight.
Hendrix who won two games yesterday came up short today losing to DePauw in the winners bracket semi-final before losing to Rhodes tonight. Hendrix finishes its season with a 22-20 record nine more wins than it recorded a year ago.
With the win Rhodes adds to its most wins in a season (29) in school history and will have a chance for two more tomorrow as the Lynx will have to defeat DePauw twice in order to be named 2009 SCAC Softball Champion.

2009 SCAC Baseball Championships - Hendrix vs. Trinity
Third seeded Hendrix College advanced to its first ever SCAC baseball championship game with a 9-7 win over rival and second seeded Trinity University. The Warriors used a six run sixth inning to turn a 2-2 game into an 8-2 lead and survived a furious Trinity rally in the final three innings. Jeff Forgerson's ninth inning home run added an insurance run for the Warriors as Trinity added two runs in the bottom of the ninth to fall just short. Eight of the nine runs Hendrix scored were unearned runs. Trinity again continued its torrid offense collecting 17 more hits to up their total to 57 hits through three games. Leading the way for the Tigers was first baseman Evan Jones who went 5-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles. Jones is hitting an astounding 11-for-14 (.786). The 11 hits are one shy of tying an SCAC Tournament record and Jones is on pace to establish a new conference tournament mark for batting average.After the game the SCACs Jeff DeBaldo caught up with Hendrix head coach RJ Thomas and Jeff Forgerson.

In the winners bracket match-up this afternoon DePauw won its fifth straight SCAC Softball Championship Tournament game defeating Hendrix 6-0 advancing to tomorrows SCAC Championship Game.Hendrix stranded six runners on base while pounding out seven hits. The Warriors were unable to get a timely hit off DePauw pitcher Megan Soultz. Soultz pitched her second straight complete game in as many days adding seven more strike outs giving her ten for the weekend. With the loss Hendrix will now play the winner of Southwestern and Rhodes for a chance at a rematch against DePauw in the Chmapionship Game.
DePauw catcher Rachel Gill was 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored. The Tigers advance to their second straight SCAC Championship Game. First pitch for tomorrows championship is scheduled for noon CST from Trinity University.

2009 SCAC Softball Championships - Rhodes vs. Trinity

Seven innings were not enough to decide the second of five contests on day two from the SCAC Softball Championships in San Antonio, Texas. After seven scoreless innings in a pitchers duel between Rhodes' Sara Bowen and Trinity's Brittany Losey, Bowen stepped to the plate in the top of the eighth with the bases loaded and hit a two RBI single to break the tie. The Lynx went on to score two more runs in the top half of the inning before Bowen troughted back to the mound and closed out the game pitching eight innings of shutout softball.
Trinity was able to stir up four hits while committing two errors in the second elimination game of the day. The TU Tigers finish the season with a record of 13-22.
Rhodes advances to play Southwestern who defeated Millsaps earlier in the day. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 PM CST from Trinity University.
After the game Trinity head coach Nicole Smith along with Rhodes head coach David Hicks and winning pitcher Sara Bowen spoke with the press about today's contest.

2009 SCAC Baseball Championships - Trinity vs. Centre
The Trinity University offense continued its strong start at the SCAC Baseball Championship by tallying 19 hits in a 14-4 eight inning victory over Centre College in the third and final game of day two. The Tigers have totaled 40 hits in its first two games. Though the final score won't show it, the two team were tied, 4-4, until Trinity scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to pull away for the win. Leading Trinity was Jordan Pennington who went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, three RBI and hit a home run. Trinity hit .475 (19-for-40) as a team. 2009 SCAC Softball Championships - DePauw vs. Trinity
In the nightcap of the first day of competition at the 2009 SCAC Softball Championships #17 DePauw defeated Trinity 3-1. Winning pitcher Megan Soultz scattered just five hits allow one run (unearned) as she picked up her 21st win of the season.Trinity's freshman pitcher Brittany Losey threw an excellent game oppisite of Soultz allowing just four hits and three run all unearned in six innings of work. With the loss Trinity falls to 13-21 on the year and will face Rhodes tomorrow in an elimination game at noon CST.
#17 DePauw improves to 24-7 on the year with tonights win and advances to the semi-final round to face Hendrix who advanced after winning two games on day one of competition.

2009 SCAC Baseball Championships - Hendrix vs. Millsaps
The Hendrix College Warriors survived a furious Millsaps College comeback attempt in the second game of day two at the 2009 SCAC Baseball championship and came away with a 9-8 win and eliminated the host Majors from the tournament. With runners on second and third and and no body out, Warriors center fielder Daniel Ward made a full-extension diving catch to rob Bill Murphy of extra bases, which essentially saved the game for Hendrix. Jeff Forgerson led the way for Hendrix as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with with two runs batted in and scored a run. Jordan Suydam picked up the win as he pitched seven innings and yielded eight runs (all earned).After the game Hendrix head coach RJ Thomas and center fielder Daniel Ward talked about the win.

DePauw's Mike Peterson went the distance against SCAC East Division rival Rhodes College in the first elimination game of the 2009 SCAC Baseball Championship tournament. Peterson scattered seven hits, struck out seven and allowed just two earned runs in nine innings in the first game of the day. DePauw senior center fielder Justin Weiner became the SCAC's career stolen bases leader with four swipes against the Lynx. Weiner's 92 career stolen bases surpassed the previous mark of 88 set by Trinity's Kenneth Sharp from 2000-03. Hendrix spoiled Southwestern's inaugural SCAC Softball Tournament appearance with a 4-3 win. In a game that saw a total of 17 runners stranded on base Hendrix was able to scratch across one more run holding the Pirates of Southwestern scoreless in the final two innings.The Pirates who had its final series of the season cancelled due to weather finally got back to action after almost two full weeks off. Southwestern falls to 18-15 on the year and will face Millsaps tomorrow in an elimination game. First pitch is scheduled for 10 AM CST from the campus of Trinity University.

2009 SCAC Softball Championships - Millsaps vs. Trinity
Trinity pounded out 14 hits scoring 12 runs as the Tigers outlasted Millsaps 12-5 in the second contest of the 2009 SCAC Softball Championships. Early errors put Millsaps in the hole as Trinity jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings.The Majors responded in the third and forth innings scoring two and three runs however couldn't hold off the Tigers. The Majors, now 15-21 after the loss, will play the loser of the Southwestern vs. Hendrix second round game this afternoon.
Trinity was led this afternoon by freshman outfielder Rachel Garrett. Garret went 4-for-5 from the plate scoring three runs while adding two RBIs. The TU Tigers advance to this afternoons second round game against DePauw University at 6 PM CST.
After the game Millsaps head coach Roland Rodriguez, Trinity head coach Nicole Smith and Trinity outfielder Rachel Garrett all spoke with the media.

Rhodes falls to 26-11 on the year and will play tomorrow at noon against the loser of the DePauw vs. Trinity/Millsaps game to be played later this afternoon.
Hendrix improves to 21-18 on the year and advances to the second round of the 2009 SCAC Softball Champioships against the #1 West seed Southwestern Pirates at 4 PM CST this afternoon.

Behind a gutsy complete game performance from senior pitcher Jake Jones, the #3 East seeded Centre College Colonels upset fifth-ranked and #1 West seeded Millsaps College 4-2 to highlight the first day of the SCAC Championship. Jones scattered seven hits, struck out six and allowed just two earned runs in improving 4-2 on the season. The game of the day was the final game of the day as Jones shutdown a powerful Millsaps offense. Centre third baseman Cory Crowdis went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and drew a walk as the Colonels won an SCAC Championship game for the first time since April 26, 1996.After the game SCAC Assistant Commissioner caught up with winning pitcher Jake Jones of Centre and head coach Mike Pritchard.

In a match-up of the conference's two #2 seeds, it was the Trinity University Tigers' 21 hit attack that over matched the Rhodes College Lynx 11-3. The 21 hits were three shy of tying an SCAC Championship single-game record. Trinity's Stosh Hoover hit a two run home run that cut Rhodes lead to 3-2 and the Tigers went on to score nine unanswered runs. Rhodes starting pitcher Andy Holt was roughed up as he allowed 12 hits, five runs (four earned), struck out four in just five innings. Trinity ace Evan Bronson left after just four innings due to injury. In the first game of the 2009 SCAC Baseball Championships, the #3 West seeded Hendrix College Warriors won its first SCAC tournament game since April 22, 1999 with a 10-7 upset of the #1 East seeded DePauw University. The Warriors plated five runs in the first three innings and then tacked on four in the top of the ninth to out do the Tigers. DePauw's Justin Weiner became the school's career stolen bases leader with 87 swipes. He also tied the SCAC career mark as well.
