SCAC Interactive - Teeing off with Oglethorpe University, the 2009 National Champions of Golf

With a final-round 289, the Oglethorpe University men's golf team earned the school's first-ever national title, winning the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Saturday afternoon at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Oglethorpe, which started the day in second place and four shots from third-round leader Methodist University, finished four shots clear of University of La Verne and seven shots better than Methodist. The Petrels shot a four-day total of 12 over par 1164.

The national championship is the sixth for an SCAC team and the first since DePauw University won the 2007 Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Just a week after its National Championship head coach Jim Owen, Senior Hap Kaufold and Junior Scott Pugh all had the chance to reflect on the weekend.

SCAC Interactive - Chrys Jones, Centre's National Champion

Chrys Jones of Centre College set a new Don Drumm Stadium record with his winning triple jump at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The individual national title is the 19th all-time for a SCAC student-athlete and third this year.

Jones, a sophomore from Harrodsburg, Ky., jumped 50 feet, 3 1/4 inches to earn the national title in the event, the first-ever for a Centre College student-athlete. He is the first male SCAC student-athlete to win a national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Rose-Hulman's Chris Trapp won back-to-back-to-back javelin titles from 1984-1986.

The sophomore sensation had the chance to talk with the SCAC's Russell Kramer last week about his experience at NCAAs, what being a national champion meant to him and about some of his talents off the track.
