SCAC Interactive - Inside SCAC Baseball Vol. 3


On this weeks podcast the conference office will bring you up to speed on the latest standings after another weekend of league play. We will also scan the Top 25 looking at the SCAC on the national scene. Finally we will take a peak at the SCAC series coming up this weekend.

The conference office also had a chance to catch up with SCAC Players of the Week Hunter Owen of Millsaps, Evan Bronson of Trinity and Colby Mattheson of Rhodes. Birmingham-Southern skipper Jan Weisberg also caught up with the conference office about his squads hot start.

Timeout with Todd Wildman; TU Tiger Takes Home National Championship


Senior Todd Wildman, who earlier this week was named the South/Southeast Indoor Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, won the national individual title in the pentathlon at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference commissioner Dwayne Hanberry spoke with Wildman earlier this week and had a chance to ask him about his championship meet.

A Sit Down with Melanie Auguste; 2009 Jostens Trophy Winner


Melanie Auguste of Colorado College has been named the winner of the 2009 Jostens Trophy, which recognizes the most outstanding women's Division III basketball player of the year.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference commissioner Dwayne Hanberry had a chance to catch up with Auguste and talk with her about a memorable year on the court.

Images - Oglethorpe vs. George Fox NCAA Round of 16

Oglethorpe Falls to George Fox 71-56 at NCAA Sectionals


Fifth-ranked Oglethorpe University and its attempt for back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances was thwarted in the Round of 16 at the hands of undefeated and third-ranked George Fox, 71-56, Friday evening at Thomas More College.

After the game Coach Ron Sattele of Oglethorpe talked about how George Fox responded with an 18-0 run after the Petrels tied the game at 44 with 14 minutes to play. To listen, click here.

Senior guard Katie Kulavic talked with the press on the emotions of a senior class that has turned around the Oglethorpe program over the past four years. To listen, click here.

Oglethorpe struggled from the field tonight shooting just 35% from the field, scoring just 56 points for a team that averages almost 80, Coach Sattele talked about the way George Fox played defense on the Petrels this evening. To listen, click here.

SCAC Interactive - Inside the SCAC Vol. 9


This week on the NCAA Tournament edition of the SCAC podcast we will take a quick look back at the SCAC Tournament and a look ahead to the NCAA brackets. The SCAC will have four teams representing the conference in the big dance; Centre and Trinity on the men’s side and Oglethorpe and DePauw on the women’s side.

Images - Centre vs. Southwestern 2009 Championship Celebration

Take a picture, it will last longer. Images of the 2009 Centre Colonels celebration from the trophy presentation to cutting down the nets. With the win the Colonels secure its third straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Centre of the Court; Colonels Clinch Third Straight NCAA Tournament Berth with 72-67 Win over Southwestern


Centre senior guard Kris Bentley tied an SCAC Tournament single-game record with eight three pointers and added 31 points as the Colonels won its second SCAC Tournament championship with a 72-67 win over the Southwestern University Pirates.

Bentley's 31 points were just three shy from tying Jon Query's (2003) and Edrick Montgomery's (2006) record of 34 while his eight three-pointers tied current assistant coach and former teammate Matt Nestheide's 2007 mark. Bentley finished 8-of-14 from beyond the arc (57.1 percent) and added seven points from the free throw line. Centre's T.C. Thomason and Danny Noll added 16 and 11 points respectively for the 23-4 Colonels.

Southwestern was once again paced by junior guard Anthony Cox. Cox finished the day with 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and shot 7-for-12 from the floor. Teammate Andrew McDonald scored a team-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.

All-Tournament team honors went to Hendrix's Andrew King, Southwestern's Andrew McDonald, Southwestern's Anthony Cox, Centre's Kris Bentley and Centre's Danny Noll. Noll was also honored as Tournament MVP.

The SCAC's Jeff DeBaldo spoke after the game to Southwestern head coach Bill Raleigh, Centre head coach Greg Mason, Centre guard Kris Bentley and Colonel assistant coach Matt Nestheide.

For the second time in the past three years Centre was crowned the SCAC Basketball Champion. The Colonels defeated Southwestern today 72-67 securing its spot in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. More images to come!

Images from the 2009 SCAC Tournament will last forever. Here are just a few from Oglethorpe's celebration after securing its first ever women's SCAC championship in school history. Cut down the nets!

Oglethorpe Crowned 2009 SCAC Champion


In its third straight SCAC Championship appearance Oglethorpe finally broke through and won its first ever SCAC women's championship today with an 82-65 win over Trinity.

A senior laden group shot a dazzling 59% (33-for-56) from the field on 20 assists. In fact the five senior starters scored all but three of Oglethorpe's points on the afternoon. Oglethorpe used a 8-to-2 run to start the second half stretching its lead to 13 and never looked back to secure the win 82-65.

Trinity was led by sophomore guard Danielle Hubenak with a 19 point, eight rebound and three assist performance. Along with teammate Krista Prato Matthew (10 points) Hubenak was named to the 2009 All-SCAC Tournament Team. The loss drops Trinity to 20-8 on the season after advancing to its first SCAC Championship game since 2006.

Tina Grace og Oglethorpe was named the Tournament MVP after posting her second double-double of the tournament with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Teammates Anna Findley, who led all scores with 27 points and Katie Kulavic were also named to the 2009 All-SCAC Tournament Team. Kulvaic who scored 24 points tonight on 9-of-13 shooting became the leagues all-time career points leader male or female with a total of 1,896.

With the win Oglethorpe improves to 25-3 on the year and secures itself a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year in a row.

After the game SCACs Russell Kramer had a chacne to catch up with Trinity head coach Amie Bradley, Oglethorpe head coach Ron Sattele and Oglethrope seniors, Anna Findley, Hannah Brooks, Biz Richmann, Katie Kulavic and Tina Grace.

Oglethorpe University claimed its first ever women's SCAC Championship in any sport with an 82-65 victory against Trinity. Oglethorpe will represent the SCAC in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in as many years. More images to come!
