Alex the Great Shatters SCAC 400 IM Record

Alex Miranda picked up his second individual SCAC Championships title Friday evening from the Ralph Wilson Natatorium in record breaking fashion by winning the men's 400-yard IM in a time of 4:02.71. Miranda whose time was good enough for an NCAA "B" cut finished nearly a full ten seconds ahead of the competition. The sophomore broke one of the oldest records held at the SCAC Championships that dates back to 2003 which was held by former Trinity great Ryan Van Der Kar.

Hayes Hunts Down Second Straight 3-Meter Diving Championship

Senior Hunter Hayes of Centre claimed his second straight men's 3-meter diving championship this afternoon with a score of 468.05 becoming just the first diver since Dustin Schulten to win back to back 3-meter crowns. Hayes who cracked his ankle on the board on his fifth dive was able to stay poised on his way to a second straight title. The Hopkinsville, Kentucky native closes out his SCAC career with three individual titles, two 3-meter championships and the 2009 1-meter title.

Same Four, Same Result - DePauw Repeats as Men's 200-Yard Free Relay Champions

Josh Baugh, Johnny Montgomery, Steve Klabak and John Cook of DePauw repeated as the men's 200-yard free relay champions in a time of 1:22.38 good enough for an NCAA "B" cut as well as the SCAC Championships record clipping the mark they set one year ago. With the win DePauw became the first back to back 200-free relay champions for the first time since 2005, 2006 when Sewanee achieved that accomplishment.

Fast Freshman Sets New SCAC 200 IM Record

Freshman Matt Kukurugya of DePauw University won the 200-yard IM in style last night edging out teammate Josh Baugh with a time of 1:54.35. The Crown Point, Indiana native broke Baugh's record which was set at last years SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Nashville, Tennessee. Kukurugya's time was good enough for an NCAA "B" cut time.

2010 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships - Men's 3-Meter

Hunter Hayes of Centre captured his second straight men's 3-meter SCAC diving championship. The senior posted a score of 468.05 which was nearly 84 points ahead of second place finished Kevin martin of Trinity.

SCAC Women's Basketball Podcast - Week Ten

With the SCAC Basketball Tournament tipping one week from today, there is still one bid unclaimed heading into the final weekend of regular season SCAC action. In the east, the seeds are set with DePauw taking the top spot, Centre the two seed, Rhodes three and Oglethorpe the four. The west still has yet to define its seeds headed to Jackson, Mississippi in one week. Hendrix, Austin College and Trinity have all claimed stake to a spot with Southwestern and Colorado College battling it out for the final remaining golden ticket and a shot at an automatic berth to the Division III big dance.

Earlier in the week the conference office had the chance to catch up with the head coach of the #3 seeded Rhodes Lynx out of the East, Matt Dean.

SCAC Men's Basketball Podcast - Week Ten

Heading into the final regular season weekend of SCAC action and there is just one final spot open for the SCAC Tournament. In the east, DePauw, Centre, Oglethorpe and Rhodes have all clinched spots while the seedings still remain to be handed out. In the West, Austin College, Southwestern and Trinity have all made reservations for Jackson, Mississippi for the SCAC Tournament while Colorado College and Millsaps battle for the final spot.

Earlier in the week the conference office had a chance to catch up with two coaches that have already punched their ticket to the SCAC Tournament, Pat Cunningham of Trinity and Herb Hilgemen of Rhodes.

Trinity Triumphs in Men's 400-Yard Medley Relay

In the final event of the first full day at the 2010 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Trinity took first place in the men's 400-yard medley relay. Led by just one senior Graham Mullings along with three freshman Sean Fronczak, Audel Mehrinfar and Spencer Bard, the Tigers posted an NCAA "B" cut and set the new SCAC record in a time of 3:27.17. This marks just the third time that Trinity has been crowned the men's 400-yard medley champions and the first since 2006.

DePauw Returns to the top of the Women's 400 Medley Relay

The DU Tigers returned to the top of the podium this evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium edging out Centre by just :0.15 seconds. Kendall Quisenberry, Catie Backer, Danielle Johnson and Katie Massey comprised the DePauw 400 Medley team that swam the third fastest time in SCAC history at 3:55.43 which is good enough for an NCAA "B" cut. DePauw has now won four of the last five women's 400 medley relays.

Tigers Tame 50-Yard Free

For only the second time in the history of the SCAC the men's and women's 50-yard free champion hailed from the same institution. Katie Massey and John Cook both of DePauw University took home the 50-free title tonight from Louisville, Kentucky. Massey who finished third a year ago took the title posting a time of :23.71 good enough for an NCAA "B" cut. Cook who took home his second straight 50-free title in a time of :20.66 which was also good enough for an NCAA "B" cut.

The only other time in the history of the SCAC that both the men's and women's 50-free champion were from the same school was back in 2006 when Robert Alexander and Maddison Hamil also of DePauw won the events.

Boehme Breaks Through Once Again

Junior Callie Boehme of DePauw University captured her third straight SCAC women's 500 free title in a time of 5:10.66. The Germantown, Tennessee native shaved off eight seconds from her prelim time and was one of only three swimmers that dropped their times from prelims to finals. After taking home the title Boehme became just the 16th swimmer in SCAC history to take home three or more individual SCAC titles in the same event.

Miranda Rights; Trinity Sophomore Takes home Second Straight Men's 500 Free Title

Trinity University sophomore Alex Miranda broke his own SCAC record in a time of 4:34.04 to take home his second straight title in the men's 500 free. His time was also good enough to post an NCAA "B" cut. With the win Trinity continues to show its dominance in the event now having won every single men's 500 free since the SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships began back in 1999.
