2009 SCAC Football Media Days - Birmingham-Southern College
Birmingham-SouthernCollege comes into the 2009 season after posting a record of 3-7 in 2008 after winning just one game in its inaugural season back on 2007. Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle enters his second season with a career record of 3-7 (0-0).
Birmingham-Southern enters the 2009 season with a number of key returners at the skill positions including junior quarterback Joe Thigpen, junior tailback Walter Arrington and wide receivers Tay Walker, a senior, and David Langston a junior. Arrington was voted First-Team All-Conference last season after leading the Panthers with 599 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Thigpen was voted Second-Team All-Conference, leading the offense with 1,079 passing yards while completing 77-of-133 with five interceptions and eight touchdowns.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was founded and began operation on September 1, 1962, as the College Athletic Conference (CAC). In its 47th year of operation, the SCAC is one of the oldest Division III conferences in the nation. The SCAC boasts a membership of 12 institutions from among the finest liberal arts colleges and universities in the nation. The SCAC is currently comprised of Austin College of Sherman, Texas; Birmingham-Southern College of Birmingham, Alabama; Centre College of Danville, Kentucky; Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado; DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana; Hendrix College of Conway, Arkansas; Millsaps College of Jackson, Mississippi; Oglethorpe University of Atlanta, Georgia; Rhodes College of Memphis, Tennessee; The University of the South of Sewanee, Tennessee; Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas; and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas.
