Oglethorpe Crowned 2009 SCAC Champion


In its third straight SCAC Championship appearance Oglethorpe finally broke through and won its first ever SCAC women's championship today with an 82-65 win over Trinity.

A senior laden group shot a dazzling 59% (33-for-56) from the field on 20 assists. In fact the five senior starters scored all but three of Oglethorpe's points on the afternoon. Oglethorpe used a 8-to-2 run to start the second half stretching its lead to 13 and never looked back to secure the win 82-65.

Trinity was led by sophomore guard Danielle Hubenak with a 19 point, eight rebound and three assist performance. Along with teammate Krista Prato Matthew (10 points) Hubenak was named to the 2009 All-SCAC Tournament Team. The loss drops Trinity to 20-8 on the season after advancing to its first SCAC Championship game since 2006.

Tina Grace og Oglethorpe was named the Tournament MVP after posting her second double-double of the tournament with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Teammates Anna Findley, who led all scores with 27 points and Katie Kulavic were also named to the 2009 All-SCAC Tournament Team. Kulvaic who scored 24 points tonight on 9-of-13 shooting became the leagues all-time career points leader male or female with a total of 1,896.

With the win Oglethorpe improves to 25-3 on the year and secures itself a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year in a row.

After the game SCACs Russell Kramer had a chacne to catch up with Trinity head coach Amie Bradley, Oglethorpe head coach Ron Sattele and Oglethrope seniors, Anna Findley, Hannah Brooks, Biz Richmann, Katie Kulavic and Tina Grace.
