SCAC Field Hockey Podcast

This week on the SCAC Field Hockey Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Lindsey Gurkovic of Rhodes and SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Taylor Helms of DePauw.

Gurkovich scored both game winning goals for Rhodes this weekend in wins over Centre and Transy, both of which were on the road. Gurkovich found the back of the cage at Transy just minutes into play and scored a second goal within 10 minutes of the first.

On Sunday at Centre, Gurkovich netted a goal off of an assist from Sara Sanders mid way through the first half. Gurkovich scored three goals this weekend on just seven shots. Lindsey leads the team in points with 12 thus far this season on four goals and four assists.

Helms showed outstanding defensive skill this weekend in leading the Tigers to two victories on the weekend. In the SCAC opener at Sewanee, Helms showed outstanding individual skill, especially on penalty corners, limiting her opponent’s opportunities for shots on goal. Her strong second half performance helped the Tigers pull out the win.

On Sunday against Division II Limestone, Helms had another big game, especially during the overtime periods, leading the Tigers to a 2-1 victory.
