SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast

This week on the SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Co-Offensive Players-of-the-Week Tyler Evans of Birmingham-Southern and Ryan Garvey of Centre.

Kramer also spoke with SCAC Co-Defensive Players-of-the-Week Kyle Porter of Trinity and Andy McGhie of Colorado College.

Evans scored a hat trick against University of the Ozarks, Saturday, and recorded an assist against Huntingdon, Sunday, to help the Panthers win their second straight tournament title at the Kyle Rote, Jr., Invitational, hosted by Sewanee. For his efforts, Evans was named Offensive MVP of the tournament.

Garvey had a prolific weekend for the Colonels. Against Oberlin College on Friday, Garvey was a constant attacking threat, hitting the bar and post along with calling on the OC keeper to make several special saves. Garvey’s play continued Saturday night, in the Championship game against Hiram College, as he earned his first hat-trick of his Centre career, from five shots on goal. On the weekend, Garvey finished with 3 goals and 1 assist, earning him Co-Most Valuable Player award and helping the Colonels improve to 3-1 on the season.

Porter led a Tiger defense that produced two shutout victories over the weekend, defeating both Hardin-Simmons and UT-Dallas. Porter and the Trinity defense yielded just five total shots in the two games, including zero shots in the second half of the 1-0 win over UT-Dallas on Saturday. Porter, who missed last season due to injury, has started all five games this season, and has led a stingy Tiger defense that has allowed just four goals and 25 shots in the first five games.

McGhie posted back-to-back shutouts to help Colorado College post a 1-0-1 record for the week. During the 0-0 tie with Penn State-Behrend on Sunday, he stopped six shots en route to his third shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. McGhie now has played 330:43 since allowing a goal against Willamette on a penalty kick. He had to make only one save during Friday’s 2-0 victory over McMurry University.
