First Time for Everything; Centre defeats Hendrix 86-77 to Advance to First SCAC Tournament Title Game
The Centre College women advanced to their first-ever SCAC Tournament championship game after Saturday's 86-77 victory over Hendrix College at the Hanger Dome on the campus of Millsaps College.
The Colonels (19-7) will face DePauw University in tomorrow's title game. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
Centre had four players in double figures, led by Lauren huter who posted a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore hit on 10-of-15 shots as the Colonels sank 53.7% of their attempts from the field - including a red-hot 65.4% in the second half.
Chelsea Benham had 18 points off the bench and Maggie Prewitt and Chelsea Goodman chipped in with 16 and 14 points respectively. Prewitt added six assists and four steals.
Hendrix, which ends its season witha 20-5 mark, was led by Christina Byler who pored in a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds.
In a very physical game, where 46 total fouls were called both teams spent significant time at the charity stripe. Centre sank 26-of-36 of its attempts (72.2%) while Hendrix made 22-of-29 (75.9%) from the line.
After the game SCAC Director of Communications Russell Kramer caught up with both head coaches along with Centre sophomore forward Lauren Huter.
