Centre Advances to Semifinals


In a tough fought game from wire to wire it was Centre who pulled out the win tonight in the final Quarterfinal match of the 2009 SCAC Tournament against Colorado College 60-47.

The Colonels used an 11 point run halfway through the second half to jump ahead 15 points and pull away from Colorado College for good. Centre, who is the number one scoring defense in the SCAC, held Colorado College to just 29% (14-48) shooting and 47 points for a team that averages 67.

Melanie Auguste paced the Tigers in a losing effort with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The loss ends Colorado Colleges season with a 16-9 record.

Chelsea Goodman lead the Colonels with 23 points (3-6 3pt) 7 rebounds and 3 assists. With the win Centre improves to 18-8 overall and now has a date with Oglethorpe University in the semifinals. The two teams met less than a week ago in Danville, Ky., with Oglethorpe picking up the road win 79-75. The winner of tomorrows game will advance to the SCAC Finals and a chance for an NCAA birth Sunday afternoon in Grove Gymnasium at noon.

After the game SCACs Russell Kramer had a chacne to cathc up with Centre head coach Wendie Austin-Robinson, Centre guard Chelsea Goodman, Centre forward Laurn Huter and Colorado head coach Liz Campbell.
