Lightning in a Bottle, Centre's Angel and DePauw's Cook Finish First in the Women's and Men's 50-Yard Freestyle


In a matter of seconds it was over but as the water began to calm down Meredith Angel was once again the champion of the 50-yard freestyle. The Centre College junior has now won this event three straight times and is the only swimmer to do so. Angel who is a Kentucky native can now claim three of the top four all time SCAC Championships times including the fastest of all time which she swam tonight in a time of 23.42.

Angel who was a part of the 200-yard freestyle team, talked about her record breaking performance.

Junior swimmer John Cook of DePauw broke one of the oldest SCAC Championships records tonight as he swam the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 20.51. Cook who hails from Leawood, Kansas broke the previous mark that had been set by Chuck Seymour of Sewanee back in 2000.

Cook, who had finished second behind teammate and four time winner of this even Robert Alexander the previous two years talked about what it felt like to finally break into the top spot.
